Raagi kesari/shira

You can make a thinner consistency by adding more milk or if the shira doesn't feel soft enough.

2 tablespoons raagi flour
2 tablespoon rava
ghee
sugar to taste
2 cups milk

Take a kadhai and heat ghee. Add the rava and raagi flour and roast in ghee for about 2 minutes. (Once there is a nice aroma of roasted rava, it is done). Take a whisk at this point and slowly add milk and whisk to mix. Once the mixture starts to come together, add sugar, stir and cover and cook on low heat for about 4 minutes. You can add raisins to make it interesting for the baby.

Enjoy!

Banana Raagi pancakes

This is perfect breakfast to give to munch since they are teething.

1/2 cup raagi flour
2 teaspoons wheat flour
milk or formula as needed
palm sugar to taste...do not add too much
1 tablespoon Butter
1/2 banana

Melt butter and mix the flours with milk or formula, sugar and melted butter. The consistency should be such that it coats the back of the spoon well. Just like dosa batter. Take the banana and chop it into tiny pieces or mash it in the batter. Heat a nonstick pan. Melt a little butter in the pan(optional). Take a spoon of the batter and pour the batter onto the pan. You can make about 3inch diameter sized pancakes. Let cook and turn once the edge comes off the pan. Cook for another minute.

This makes about 8 3-inch diameter pancakes. If these are not palatable to your baby, soak and then mash them up with milk or formula and feed as regular food.

Vegetable khichadi

Going to start blogging some recipes that Aditi(8months old) enjoys. Hope you do too!

1/2 cup basmati rice
1/4 cup masoor dal
1/4 cup green moong dal
1/4 cup carrots
1 fistful spinach
1/4 cup broccoli
Jeera pwder to taste
Salt to taste
Ghee.

Wash the rice and dals. In a pressure pan, put all the ingredients except jeera powder, salt and ghee. Add 2 cups water and pressure cook it for about 4 whistles. After the steam has settled, open the pressure pan, spoon out the khichadi in a blender. Add salt, jeera powder and ghee and give it a whiz till desired consistency.

This is sufficient for 3 meals. I puree only required qtty and put the rest in the fridge. Then add hot water to puree it every meal time.
